Re: Willis FIELD who appears on the 1799 Bourbon Co., KY tax list
I am trying to identify this man. Is the family below a "match up" for Willis, and do I have the Col. Ezekiel Henry Field family info correct?
-----
Col. Ezekiel Henry FIELD married Elizabeth FIELD, his cousin.
They had 3 children:
1. Willis b. 1778
2. Staunton (died young)
3. Ezekiel Henry b. May 1782
After Col. Ezekiel Henry FIELD died, his widow married #2: Capt. Thomas McClanahan. Her 2nd husband McClanahan died ca 1808; his Bourbon Co., KY, will was dated May 4, 1807 and recorded in Feb. 1909.
ca 1800 Willis FIELD married Elizabeth FIELD, "his cousin". This Elizabeth FIELD was the daughter of John FIELD, Jr., of Bourbon Co. (but I haven't figurd out who "John Jr." is -- sounds like he was brother of Ezekiel Henry Field. Am I right? )
1800-1830 a Willis FIELD appears on census records in Bourbon Co. KY for 30 years. In 1837 Willis FIELD dies, age 60, in Bourbon Co., KY.
Any additions/corrections to the above would be appreciated. I am trying to figure out if the Willis FIELD on the Bourbon Co 1799 tax list is the Willis FIELD, son of Col Ezekiel Field.

Here's my query on the FIELDS who appear on Bourbon Co. tax lists 1793-1799. -- Helen
Re: FIELDS families in Bourbon Co-Nicholas Co "area" 1792-1810
I am still stumped on Old-Geezer Ebenezer FIELDS who appears first on the Bourbon Co KY tax list in 1797. (Either he came of age or just arrived there to appear on the 1797 tax list.) Apparently where he lived became Nicholas Co., as he is on Nicholas Co tax records after 1800, as are a Benjamin and a Thomas FIELDS/FEILDS. I am hoping that Ebenezer is related in some way to the "other" Fields men who appear on early tax lists starting in 1793.
If you have any info on who these men were and/or how they were related, please post to the list:
FIELDS on 1793-1799 BOURBON CO Tax Lists
1793 - John FIELD. Who is he? Same man as John FIELDS 1795?
1795 - Joseph FIELD, Renbars FIELD (is this Reuben Fields?), Benjamin FIELDS, John FIELDS, Larkin FIELDS
1796 - Ezekel FIELDS, John FIELDS, Larkin FIELDS, Rueben FIELDS, and R--n (Reason?)FIELDS. Who are these men? Are they related -- how?
1797 - Ezekel FIELDS, John FIELDS, Larkin FIELDS, Rueben FIELDS, Benjamin FEILDS (sic), Ebenezer FEILDS (sic), and Thomas FEILDS (sic)
1798 - no tax list
1799 - Ezekiel, John, Joseph, Larkin, Reuben, and Willis FIELD Willie FIELDS, and Benjamin, Ebenezer, and Thomas FEILDS (sic)

HARRISON FIELD was born in Bourbon County, Ky., October 22, 1810, son of Joseph and Jemima (Wright) Field, the father a native of Culpeper County, Va., and the mother of Woodford County, Ky. The Fields were originally from England, their settlement in this country dating at colonial times. Members of the family served in the Revolution and in the early Indian or border wars. The grandfather, Daniel, served in the Revolution and afterward bought a large tract of land in Bourbon County, Ky. The father married Miss Wright in Kentucky, and in 1814 settled in Washington County, Indiana, on Twin Creek, and about two years later came to Bono Township, Lawrence County, but after a time located on the G. R. Field farm, in this township (Marion Township, Lawrence County), and there passed the remainder of his days. His children were Thomas, George, Harrison (our subject), Sarah, Daniel, Willis and Joseph J. Our subject, when seventeen years old, with meager education, began farming for himself - hiring out by the month at $5, $6 and $8 per month. He made four trips to New Orleans on flat boats, receiving $30 for the round trip. At the end of seven years he had saved considerable and he bought eighty acres. He now has 246 acres (Marion Township). His wife, Ellen Rankin, whom he married October 13, 1835, bore him these children: Mary A., Sarah J., Susan Y., Harrison W., Ellen J., George T., William C., James W., Willis P., Albert M. and John R. Sarah, Susan, George and John only are living. Harrison, Jr., died while in the last war. George served and safely returned. The Rankins settled in Washington County in 1811, and five years later near Bedford. Mr. Field is a Republican, and he and wife are members of the Christian Church. They are excellent people.
(3) Name: Henry FIELD
Misc. Notes
Henry Fields, Jr., died 1785 in Culpeper Co. VA. He owned land in Bourbon Co., KY. His estate was still being divided in 1827 (42 years later!). By this time, most of Henry's 8 children were dead; his daughter Eliza was still alive, tho.
I have been able to identify some of the 1827 heirs but not all ... so I hope someone on the list can identify the rest. Also, if I have made a mistake in identification, please post corrections. Please post whatever info you have on these "heirs" to the list as it will help others.
1827 - Bourbon Co. Master Commissioner's Deed Book A..."Heirs of Henry Fields":
1. "Thomas McClananhan and Eliza his wife". (Eliza 1752-1837 was Henry's daughter; her first husband was Col. Ezekiel Fields. )
2. "Daniel Field". (Henry had a son Daniel. Was he still alive in 1827?)
3. "Nancy Delaney, a widow". (Who is this Nancy? I don't think Henry had a dau Nancy. The only Nancy Field marriage I could find in Bourbon Co. was Nancy Field to William MORROW. Wm Morrow did not die until 1835, so Nancy Delaney, widow, is not Nancy Morrow. However, Wm/Nancy Morrow did have a dau Nancy. Did Nancy Morrow marry a Delaney who died by 1827? )
4. Joseph Field (Henry had a son Joseph. Was he still allive in 1827?)
5. "Joseph Towles and Sally Towles, his wife". (Who is this Sally? Is she a dau of George?)
6. "(blank space) Davis" (Not much to go on here!)
7. "Eliza Davis, dau of George Field, dec'd". (Henry had a son George; when did George die? Does someone have more info on Henry Field's son George -- spouse, children?
8." unknown heirs of Thomas Field." (Henry had a son Thomas who was alive in 1799). Does anyone have more info on Henry's son Thomas? Where did he live? Spouse? Children? Why doesn't the court know who his heirs were?
9. "David Clarkson and Polly Clarkson, his wife."(Polly was Henry's grand daughter. Mary L. (Polly) Fields was the daughter of Henry's son Henry W.S. Fields -- who was hung for murdering his 2nd wife. Polly and her sisters Eliza, Louisa, and Sally were left orphans when their father was hung. They became the wards of Willis Fields. Mary L. (Polly) the oldest dau married David Clarkson in 1808. In 1814, David Clarkson took over guardianship of Polly's younger sisters Eliza, Louisa, and Sally.)
10. Louisa Field. (At this time, I believe this is Henry's grand dau -- i.e. the unmarried dau of Henry W.S. Fields, hung for murdering his 2nd wife. See above.)
11. "Elias P. Smith". (See #12. Elias P. Smith married Eliza Field in 1817. He was of Cincinnati.
12. "Eliza Smith". (I believe this is Elias Smith's wife and that she was Henry's grand dau, i.e. one of the orphaned daus of "hung Henry W.S. Field"; if correct, she was sister of Polly Clarkson, Louisa Field, and Sally Moseby.)
13. "Thomas Moseby and Sally his wife". (I believe this is the 4th dau of "hung Henry W.S. Field).
14. "heirs of John Field, a son of Henry Field Jr., who are: Joseph, Henry, Eliza, Richard, and Paschal FIELD". (Does anyone have more info on Henry's son John -- his spouse? where did he live? More info on his children listed here as his heirs?)
Any help in identifying the above heirs named in the 1827 Bourbon Co. court would be appreciated. Anyone researching FIELDS families in early KY knows it is an arduous task.
Re: the Willis FIELD who became guardian of the 4 daughters of "hung Henry W.S.Field" ... I think he could be the son of Col. Ezekiel Field/Eliza FIELD. They had a son Willis born 1776. Willis did not die until 1837. If I am correct, the Willis Field who took in the 4 orphaned girls would be the grand son of Henry d. 1785. The girls were also grand dau's, i.e. they were Willis Fields' younger cousins. He was about 20 years older than they were.
